Through location changes, funding challenges and even a global pandemic, the Jefferson Teen Center has remained a constant. In a county where third spaces for young people have steadily disappeared, we have stayed open, stayed present and stayed committed. And now, as we enter a new chapter, we’re doing something that should have been the norm all along - ensuring teens lead the way.

One of the most consistent messages we hear from teens is simple and heartbreaking: “We don’t see ourselves in this community.” That is why we’ve formed multiple youth leadership groups to guide every major decision, from program development to the big changes ahead. Teens are shaping the future of the Jefferson Teen Center because this is their home, their community and their future.

**Searching for a New Home**

Our current building, located on the high school campus, has served us for two decades. But it no longer meets the needs of the teens we serve. It has no running water. No bathroom. And no capacity for the expanded programming our youth are asking for.

So we’re searching for a new location - one that reflects the dignity, creativity and belonging our teens deserve.

**How You Can Help**

This transition is big, and we need community members who believe in rural youth. We’re seeking:

\- Board members to help guide our relocation

\- Grant support to sustain and grow programs

\- Marketing and communications volunteers

\- Community partners who want to invest in teens and families

Most importantly, we need people who care about keeping this space alive.

**Programs That Make a Difference**

Our work spans daily support, long-term leadership development and essential resources:

\- Belonging & Wellness Initiative

\- Youth Leadership Opportunities

\- Tutoring for Teens

\- Farm‑to‑fork Nutrition Program featuring locally sourced meals

\- After‑school and summer programs

\- Back‑to‑School Prepared Program providing backpacks, supplies and groceries

\- Free Store Program, stocked with hygiene items, clothing, socks and essentials

\- Daily pro‑social events that build connection, confidence and community

Every one of these programs exists because teens asked for them — and because our community helped make them possible.
