Letter to the Editor: League of Women Voters Forum Needs Your Questions

Dear Readers of the Jefferson County Beacon --

Three Port Townsend residents - Fred Obee, Mikki Porter, and Dylan Quarles - are taking the bold step and running for the open seat on Port Townsend City Council. Your local League of Women Voters-Jefferson County believes that everyone should have a chance to hear local candidates answer questions live in a public forum. We understand that not everyone has the ability or desire to attend an in-person evening event, which is why we hold our forums on Zoom, with phone numbers that can be called into by landlines, a simulcast on KPTZ 91.9 FM public radio, and the ability to watch a recording of the forum later via a link on our website.

The City Council Primary Candidate Forum will take place on July 16 starting at 6:00 PM, and the questions we ask come from you, our community. We therefore invite everyone in Port Townsend to submit questions to lwvjeffcowa@gmail.com no later than noon July 14. Concise, unbiased questions directly related to the job, its policies, and the leadership skills required will be given priority, and similar questions will be combined. We strive to ensure that questions reflect a wide range of concerns from our city’s multiple constituencies, and our questions are never released to any candidates in advance of the forums.

Links to the forum will be posted on the League’s website https://lwvwa.org/Jefferson/ on July 1.

For additional information on the candidate forum, please contact the League of Women Voters-Jefferson County at lwvjeffcowa@gmail.com.
