Welcome to Soundcheck!
The Beacon's Youth Reporting Lab, Arts Reporter Diane Urbani de la Paz and Editor Nhatt Nichols bring you the best of Soundcheck as it happens
The Beacon has always been looking for an excuse to work with young reporters, but it's taken a cool arts festival to make that dream a reality.
This weekend, we're bringing together youth reporters Ave Arroyo, Ben Shafer and CJ Fisher to cover the three-day arts festival. We also have Beacon arts reporter Diane Urbani de la Paz on hand to help cover all of the extensive happenings, and Editor Nhatt Nichols on site each day to mentor our Youth Reporting Lab (YRL) participants and get everything online.
Want to follow along as Soundcheck happens? That's easy! Bookmark the page below and keep checking back over the weekend. You can also check out the Sound Check schedule here.

We're referring to this as a lab for a reason: this is definitely an experiment for the Beacon, so we're excited to have both your feedback and your patience.
Huge thanks to Katy Goodman, Arts & Culture Coordinator with the City of Port Townsend, for bringing this awesome idea our way, and to Alyssa de Leon, Program Manager for Creative Youth Development at Centrum, for introducing us to our YRL participants.
See you at Soundcheck!
Nhatt Nichols,
Editor
