Port Townsend Celebrates 2025 Comp Plan
The event featured a time capsule, music and putting greens at Camas Prairie Golf Park.
PORT TOWNSEND, WA — The City of Port Townsend marked a major planning milestone on Saturday, April 25, with a festive community celebration at the Camas Prairie Golf Park, honoring the passage of the city’s 2025 Comprehensive Plan.
Residents of all ages gathered from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. for an afternoon that blended forward-looking civic pride with old-fashioned fun. The highlight of the event was a time capsule, set to be opened in 2045.
Before the sealing, community members were invited to pick up a “Postcard to the Future” and add their personal messages to the capsule.

The afternoon kicked off at 2:00 p.m. with live bluegrass and folk sounds from the Boiler Room String Band, while Port Townsend Poet Laureate Rufina C. Garay led a poetry activity near a crackling fire pit. The Golf Park offered complimentary access to its disc golf course, driving range, and putting greens, along with refreshments including popcorn, nuts, lemonade and iced tea.
At 3:00 p.m., Deputy Mayor Owen Rowe addressed the crowd, thanking attendees for their engagement in shaping the city’s long-term vision. He then officially sealed the time capsule destined for the Jefferson County Historical Society for safekeeping until 2045.

Immediately following the sealing, staff handed out free ice cream sandwiches from Elevated Ice Cream—a sweet reward for a crowd that spent the afternoon putting, chatting and celebrating.
Kids and adults alike were putting on the green, setting a friendly atmosphere that carried through the entire event.
